بعد خسارته الثقيلة أمام أستون فيلا.. ماذا يحتاج ليفربول للعودة إلى دوري الأبطال؟

Liverpool Suffers Heavy Blow in Champions League Race After Aston Villa Thrashing

Liverpool received a heavy blow in the race for Champions League qualification after a crushing 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park. The match reshuffled the cards in the European qualification spots just before the decisive final round of the English Premier League.

The defeat was not just a loss of three points; it put “the Reds” in a complex situation, as Villa officially secured fourth place, leaving Liverpool facing delicate calculations tied to their rivals’ results.

Watkins Leads the Storm, Van Dijk Resists

The match started with clear competitiveness before Morgan Rogers opened the scoring for the home side in the 42nd minute.

At the start of the second half, captain Virgil van Dijk restored hope for Liverpool with an equalizing header in the 53rd minute.

But star Ollie Watkins delivered a harsh and swift response, asserting himself as the hero of the match with two consecutive goals in the 57th and 73rd minutes, before John McGinn rounded off the scoring with Villa’s fourth in the 88th minute. Van Dijk’s second goal in injury time was not enough to change their destiny.

Villa Officially Secures Fourth Spot

With this win, Aston Villa raised their tally to 62 points, securing fourth place and direct qualification to the Champions League next season – a significant achievement for the team at home and in front of their fans.

In contrast, Liverpool’s points tally froze at 59 points in fifth place, losing the chance to secure qualification by their own hand in this round.

Qualification Scenarios: Hope Hinges on Bournemouth’s Result

Liverpool’s fate is now linked to what happens in the matches of Bournemouth, who are in sixth place with 55 points.

The calculations are now both clear and complex. A win for Liverpool in their final match against Brentford on May 24th would officially guarantee them qualification.

However, if Bournemouth loses to Manchester City in Round 37, it could give Liverpool the qualification spot early, even before playing their final match. Any victory for Bournemouth would keep the race open until the final whistle of Round 38.

Brighton: A Nearly Impossible Hope

Brighton (53 points) have a very slim mathematical chance, requiring them to win their remaining two matches, coupled with losses for both Liverpool and Bournemouth – a scenario closer to a miracle.

The Final Round: A Test of Nerves

Liverpool now face a true test of nerves; victory is no longer a luxury, but an absolute necessity. After a disappointing season, the team has no choice but to cling to their last chance to return to Europe’s biggest stage, and await a gift that might come from another stadium.
