The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation in Egypt has announced an intensified plan to supply food products, especially meat, through its outlets nationwide in preparation for Eid al-Adha. This initiative aims to offer significant discounts, up to 25% compared to market prices, to alleviate financial burdens on citizens.
Key Highlights of the Ministry’s Plan:
- Increased Supply: Minister Alaa Farouk directed an increase in the quantities of both local and frozen meat, as well as other essential commodities, to meet high demand during the holiday season.
- Diverse Product Range: The plan extends beyond meat to include legumes, oils, and various other food products, all offered at reasonable prices with strict adherence to quality and oversight standards.
- Extensive Distribution Network: The Ministry relies on a network of approximately 600 fixed and mobile outlets across all governorates. These include locations within agricultural directorates, land reform offices, agricultural research centers, research stations, and mobile vehicles, ensuring widespread access, particularly in densely populated and underserved areas.
- Combating Market Manipulation: The Ministry emphasized coordination with private sector companies to expand distribution beyond major cities like Cairo and Alexandria, aiming to prevent monopolistic practices and price hikes amidst increased demand.
- Strategic Reserves: The Ministry assured the public that strategic reserves of meat and other food items are robust and sufficient to cover citizens’ demands throughout the Eid season, including live sacrifices and slaughtered meat.
